Red beret revival

I have been stuck in the house since Wednesday and when I got up this morning I just couldn't face another day of sitting around in my pyjamas feeling sorry for myself...so I pulled myself together, put on my make-up, and went for a walk. The Texan and I stumbled across this little open car park overlooking the back of our street and we were just chatting and taking some photos when a middle-aged woman came over and told us bluntly, "This is private property". I have had several experiences like this with middle-aged women - I'm starting to wonder what's going on...

Anyway, we found a different corner to take some photos. I used to wear my red beret all the time - in fact, when I lived in Strasbourg I never took it off (since I was living in France and all...) - but it's been hidden away in my wardrobe, neglected, for well over a year. Raquel and Carrie always look so chic in their berets so I dug it out and I think I'll start wearing it more often - it's a welcome pop of colour on these grey drizzly days.

A reader recently commented asking for suggestions as to where to find decent knitwear which won't break the bank. I actually struggle with this myself every winter but I've pretty much decided to stop looking in the High Street stores (because they're all so expensive and not actually all that warm) and just go vintage. This breton sweater was £20 from Blitz and it's so snuggly! And it leaves enough room for a thinner sweater underneath for those really cold days.

A reader also asked me recently about wearing socks with tights. At the time I said I wouldn't mix colours but I think these dark grey knee-highs with bottle-green tights actually work - what do you think?

What I'm wearing -

Coat: Topshop

Breton sweater: Vintage, Blitz

Shorts: Vintage, Rokit

Bag: Mulberry

Loafers: Vintage, Blitz

Beret: No idea, but probably a market stall in London somewhere!

Why can't I ever look so cute wearing a hat?? And middle-aged women are the worst for that sort of thing..but at least you got one photo there! Victory. :D

I've been looking for a red beret everywhere this year but I can't find one. Even accessorized fail, they have one but it has a flower on the side, not very nice. Yours looks perfect with your outfit, v.parisian! X

You should try some of the street markets - I guarantee you'd find one at Portobello Road or Camden Market for less than a tenner!

And thank you for commenting - love your blog xx

I really like stripes and berets, all so Parisian! And you look amazing in them.

Red berets are great... I've got one in a box in Canada I need to go looking for! Also, how can a car park be private property, tsk? : )

This post just made me realize I should wear berets more often. I really love how Raquel and Carrie wear it too. Maybe I should give it a try!
